Dr. Neelakshi Bhagat is an expert in Ocular Trauma pertaining to the posterior segment (retina) of the eye. She also specializes in evaluation and treatment of Diabetic Retinopathy, Complex Diabetic Retinal Detachments, and Age-Related Macular Degeneration. She has served as the Director of Vitreo-Retinal Surgery at the Institute of Ophthalmology and Visual Science since 2001. She is an integral part of the Ocular Trauma 24/7 on-call team at the NJ designated Eye Trauma Center at UH- Newark.
Dr. Bhagat has numerous publications within her specialty: Ocular Trauma and its complications, Diabetic Retinopathy and Retinal Detachments. She has presented at National Eye Meetings on various topics related to eye complications of Trauma and Diabetes.
Dr. Bhagat is also involved in many research studies. She is the Principal Investigator of numerous NIH-sponsored research trials pertaining to Diabetic Retinopathy, Macular Edema, Age-Related Macular Degeneration and Retinal Vein Occlusions. Her research entails evaluating new therapeutic options for various retinal disorders. She mentors medical students for clinical research during their research rotations.
Dr. Bhagat completed her Ophthalmology residency at New Jersey Medical School and her 2- year surgical Retina fellowship at the Doheny Eye Institute, USC in 2000. She has been included in ?The Best Doctors in America, Castle Connoly's "guide ?Top Doctors: New York Metro Area? and ?Top Doctors: Inside Jersey"
