Stephen Alerhand MD is an Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine. He serves as Director of the Emergency Ultrasound Division and its Clinical Ultrasound Fellowship. He also directs the Undergraduate Medical Education curriculum that incorporates point-of-care ultrasound into the module-based learning of anatomy, pathophysiology, and the physical examination. Dr. Alerhand completed both his Emergency Medicine Residency and Emergency Ultrasound Fellowship at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. He has been bestowed with institutional, regional, and national awards in emergency ultrasound education including from the American College of Emergency Physicians and the Society of Academic Emergency Medicine. In addition to Emergency Medicine, Dr. Alerhand is also board-certified in Critical Care Echocardiography (CCeXAM). He has published 50+ peer-reviewed studies, reviews, and book chapters in emergency ultrasound and critical care echocardiography. He operates the US Probes section for the EMdocs.net site that receives up to 9,000 views per day. Nationally, Dr. Alerhand serves as Secretary of the American College of Emergency Physicians - Emergency Ultrasound Section. He has also served as Senior Content Editor for the PEERcert+ in Advanced Ultrasound and as a Review Course Lecturer for the Focused Practice Designation examination in Advanced Emergency Medicine Ultrasonography (AEMUS). Internationally, Dr. Alerhand has directed the Annual Critical Care Ultrasound Workshop for the Israeli Association of Emergency Medicine three times. Given his Spanish language fluency as a first-generation American, he has lectured virtually and in-person to audiences in Mexico, Spain, Peru, Chile, and the Dominican Republic.
