Dr. Matassa obtained his medical degree from Rutgers New Jersey Medical School in 2013, then joined our residency program and served an additional year as Chief Resident at the VA site. Dr. Matassa is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and has received many accolades during residency for his patient care and teaching skills, including several nominations for the prestigious Golden Apple Award.
Dr. Matassa joined the faculty of New Jersey Medical School in 2017 as Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine and Associate Program Director for the Internal Medicine Residency. Since starting his professional career at NJMS, he has been heavily involved in the medical education of both students and residents through the development and delivery of lectures, team-based learning activities, patient care rounds, and morning reports. He is currently responsible for organizing and coordinating the residents? ambulatory curriculum/education and for the development of additional educational tracks within the program, and serves as the Chair of the Clinical Competency Committee. He has won the award for Best Teaching Attending at University Hospital for the last 2 years.
