Dr. Ruiz Mendoza is the Director of the Geriatric Evidence & Research Initiative (GERI-AMAUTA). He obtained his medical degree from Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia in 2016 and began his career as a primary care physician in a rural community in the Amazon region of Peru, where he developed a deep commitment to patient-centered care in resource-limited settings. He then worked as a research fellow at his alma mater before completing his residency training in Internal Medicine at Rutgers Health/New Jersey Medical School in 2023, and fellowship training in Geriatric Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in 2024. Since returning to NJMS in 2024, Dr. Ruiz Mendoza has focused on providing comprehensive geriatric care, expanding consultation services at University Hospital, and advancing medical education and research in geriatrics through GERI-AMAUTA.
