All aspects of neuromuscular disease, especially orthopedic, respiratory, cardiac, pulmonary rehabilitation and noninvasive mechanical ventilatory support alterntives to tracheostomies. No one needs a trach tube for only being too weak to breathe. We extubate ventilator unweanable people and remove the trach tubes of ventilator dependent people who don't want them. Trach tubes can increase morbidity and mortality.

Dr. John R. Bach received his medical degree from the College of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in
1976. He completed residency training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at New York University in
1980. He was the Medical Director of the Howard Rusk Ventilator Unit at Goldwater Memorial Hospital
from 1980 to 1981 and then developed a noninvasive respiratory management program at the University
of Poitiers, France from 1981 to 1983. He has been on the faculty of the Rutgers University-New Jersey
Medical School where he is a Professor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Vice Chairman of the
Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Professor of Neurology in the Department of
Neurology, Director of Research and Associate Medical Director of the Department of Physical Medicine
and Rehabilitation at University Hospital, Newark, N.J., Director of the Rutgers New Jersey Medical School
Muscular Dystrophy Association Clinic, and Medical Director of the Center for Ventilator Management
Alternatives, University Hospital, Newark, N.J. He has over 500 peer reviewed scientific articles and book
chapters and 13 medical textbooks on neuromuscular and pulmonary medicine in English, Spanish, and
Japanese and has lectured on these topics in over 60 countries. He has received many awards for
excellence in research writing, and others include the UMDNJ University Excellence Award for Patient
Care, and the Newark Beth Israel Health Care Foundation Humanism in Medicine.
