Overview

Dorian J. Wilson, M. D. is an Porfessor of Surgery. He is a graduate of Dartmouth College where he majored in French. Upon completion of his studies at Dartmouth, he spent time during a brief clinical experience at the New England Deaconess Hospital in Boston. He was awarded his medical doctorate from the New Jersey Medical School in 1982 where he later completed residency training in General Surgery in 1987. He participated in fellowship training in transplantation at the University of Pittsburgh under the direction of Thomas E. Starzl, M.D.,Ph.D., a pioneer in the field, before becoming one of the founding members of the Division of Liver Transplantation and Hepatobiliary Surgery at NJMS. He was an integral part of the team that performed the first liver transplant in the state. His appointment as an Assistant Professor was punctuated by service in the U.S. Air Force (commissioned Major). He performed liver, kidney and pancreas transplants there from 1993 until 1996 when he returned to UMDNJ. He served for three years in the Emergency/Trauma Division before rejoining the transplant team in 1999. He performed renal transplants at St. Barnabas Medical Center from 1991 to 1993 and was the Medical Director of the N.J. Organ and Tissue Sharing Network from 1991 to 1993 and again from 1997 to 2003. In addition to his practice in liver transplantation he is director of the Healthcare Foundation Center for Humanism and Medicine at the New Jersey Medical School.
