Barry E. Levin, M.D. is a Professor and Interim Chair of the Department of Neurology and Neurosciences at the New Jersey Medical School and is also the Assistant Chief of Neurology at the E. Orange Veterans Administration Medical Center. He earned his M.D. degree from Emory University Medical School, did his postgraduate training in Internal Medicine and Neurology at Cornell Affiliated Hospitals and the National Institute of Neurologic Diseases and Stroke. His research deals with the neural regulation of energy homeostasis which he studies in a rat model of diet-induced obesity which has inborn leptin and insulin resistance. Much of his recent work deals with mechanisms for increasing leptin sensitivity by altering the perinatal environment.
