Lewis S. Nelson, MD is Professor and Chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine and Chief
of the Division of Medical Toxicology. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the
American Board of Emergency Medicine, the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical
Education, and Association of Academic Chairs in Emergency Medicine and is Past-President of
the American College of Medical Toxicology. He is a consultant to CDC, FDA, DHS, and has
worked closely with several professional medical organizations such as ACMT, ASAM, SAEM, and
ACEP. Dr. Nelson is an editor of the textbook Goldfrank?s Toxicologic Emergencies and on the
editorial boards of several journals. Dr. Nelson provides direct clinical care to patients
in the ED and serves as a senior consultant to the New Jersey Poison Information & Education
System. He completed a residency in emergency medicine at Mount Sinai School of Medicine and
a fellowship in medical toxicology at New York University School of Medicine.
