The Summer Medical Experience (SUMEx) Scholars Program at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School (NJMS) is a 6-7 week academic enrichment program designed for undergraduate students participating in the New Jersey Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF) program.

Made possible through support from the New Jersey Educational Opportunity Fund, SUMEx provides students with an immersive experience that strengthens preparation for careers in medicine and other health professions. Participants receive a stipend and engage in activities designed to build the knowledge, academic skills, and professional competencies needed to pursue advanced study in health-related fields.

Through faculty engagement, academic workshops, and mentorship, students will gain exposure to topics such as:

• Foundations of medical and health sciences
• Clinical and community health perspectives
• Professional development and career exploration
• Academic preparation for graduate and professional school

The program is intended to support students who demonstrate strong interest in health professions and who would benefit from structured academic preparation, mentorship, and exposure to medical education.

Students must be current EOF participants to apply.
All materials should be submitted as soon as possible to ensure full consideration.
